Liverpool Chiropractor

Specialists in the diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of the spine and pelvis and the effect on the surrounding ligaments, muscles and nerves.

Chiropractic is based on the knowledge that tension, misalignment or altered function of your spine and pelvis interfere with the nervous system and the surrounding muscles and ligaments. This reduces your body’s ability to coordinate its function, adapt to changing demands and cope with lifestyle stresses.

The structure of your spine allows it to naturally absorb a large amount of Stress and tension. When one joint or region becomes tense and restricted, other parts of your spine that are moving well simply move more to compensate.

Your posture can be affected while your nervous system and body functions are dramatically reduced. Pain usually appears after many years, when your body is unable to absorb or compensate for any more stress or tension.

If you haven’t visited a chiropractor before, you might be missing out. Millions of people around the world have experienced the incredible benefits of chiropractic care.

Your Liverpool Chiropractor focuses on improving the function of your spine and pelvis, helping your nervous system and muscular system to function at its best. This helps improve flexibility and posture, makes it easier for your body to deal and cope with stresses of daily life and increase performance and wellness.

Working on all the joints of the body, concentrating particularly on the spine, chiropractors use their hands to make often gentle, specific adjustments (manipulations) and other joint and soft-tissue therapies, as well as giving exercises, and health and lifestyle advice, to help support the body’s natural ability to heal.

WHAT IS CHIROPRACTIC?

Liverpool Chiropractic Clinic are Specialists in the diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of the spine and pelvis and the effect on the surrounding ligaments, muscles and nerves.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Your Body has sensors throughout the joints, ligaments, tendons, muscles, organs and skin that relay messages throughout your peripheral nervous system, into your central nervous system (protected by your spine) to your brain. Your brain then interprets the messages then controls how your body responds.

Abnormal function, position or injury can cause a persistent disturbed sensory feedback to the central nervous system which may result in the feeling of pain and other problems.

Any stress placed on your body, such as:

Emotional (Stress at work / relationships)
Physical (Sports, Sitting too Long, Not Enough Exercise)
Chemical (Food and Drink)

All affect your body, resulting, in certain muscles becoming overactive and tight, other weak. Joints being overloaded and nerves pinched and irritated. The result is pain and inflammation which can further affect your nervous system.

Chiropractic Care aims to establish the normal function of joints, muscles, ligaments, and nerves, throughout the body, to help restore normal feedback and function of these structures, to assist healing, reduce pain and increase wellness.

WHAT'S INVOLVED?

The primary aim of chiropractic care given at Liverpool Chiropractic Clinic is to help restore the balance and symmetry of the body’s structure and function, in order to reduce pain and optimise and maintain health. To do this we try to help reduce the physical, chemical and nervous system stresses that we find.

Relief Phase

At the start of the treatment plan our goal is to reduce pain and increase function as quickly as possible. We will use soft tissue and spinal adjustments to improve the function of your joints and muscles, reduce overload, inflammation and muscle spasm. This usually involves a higher frequency of appointments, and you may not feel improvement straight away but within 4-6 treatments you should see significant changes.

Rehabilitation Phase

Once you are in less pain, it’s important to restore proper stability, joint mobility and muscular strength while preventing future relapses through specifically tailored exercises, core stability training and lifestyle advice. These treatments are less frequent and will place an emphasis on you to maintain these benefits.

Maintenance / Check Up Phase

Statistics show that back pain is often recurring. Now that you’ve spent a lot of time and effort getting your body working better, it makes sense to keep it that way. In this stage the appointments are further apart (sometimes every month, 3 months or even 6 months) and involves a thorough check up in order to prevent future relapses and maintain all improvements. How long you would like to benefit from chiropractic care is entirely up to you and a plan of care can be stopped at any time.

YOUR TREATMENT PLAN

Initial Consultation (1 Hour – Consultation Examination, Report of Findings & 1st Treatment)

The purpose of your first visit is to discuss your problem, for the chiropractor to find the underlying cause of your problem and determine whether chiropractic treatment would be able to help.

The Liverpool chiropractor will take a full case history, previous health history, and conduct a thorough neurological, orthopaedic and chiropractic specific examination. If you are taking any medications, it is useful if you can bring a list of these with you.

Depending on your condition, Xrays or MRI scans may be necessary to help analyse and diagnose conditions that may require a different form of treatment. This only occurs on rare occasions and everything will be fully explained beforehand.

Report of Findings

A report of the findings may occur during your initial consultation or on a separate occasion once x-rays or further tests have been completed. By this time, your chiropractor will have assessed your findings and discuss with you a detailed explanation of what the problem is, and what the best course of action available to you. An individually tailored plan of care will then be recommended to you.

1st Treatment

The first treatment usually occurs during your first appointment and will involve a combination of specific adjustment, mobilisations, soft tissue techniques and acupuncture to the spine, joints and muscles in order to help restore normal function, relax muscles, remove strain from ligaments,  improve the efficiency of the nervous system and thus relieving pain.

The Consultation, Report of Findings and 1st Treatment normally occur on the 1st visit and takes around 45 minutes to an hour. Subsequent Treatments are around 30 minutes

2nd Treatment (30- 45 minutes)

The 2nd visit is usually scheduled within a few days of the initial visit. On this appointment we will run through your Report of Findings again, discussing the number of treatments required.  We allow for further questions and explanations from the first appointment.

The number of treatments required will be affected by the severity of you condition, how long you have had it for and the number of underlying causes that appear to be aggravating it. Usually when people are in pain we recommend a treatment every 2-3 days (2-3 times a week) for 1-4 weeks depending on the problem.

As you improve and come back having been pain free for 3-4 days, we would extend the length of time between treatments to a week. As you improve the time between sessions is increased.

Follow Up Treatments (up to 30 minutes)

Like a regular work out at the gym, each chiropractic session will build on the one before. You may also be given exercises and other lifestyle advice to complement your treatment, and enable you to reap maximum health benefits.
